I didn't change the equalizer, only the wiring going from the head unit to the equalizer, along with the other components I mentioned: the radio, radio basket, amp, and wiring going to the amp.
And yes, to answer your question, the radio works in the vehicle, the sound level is just too soft to hear when I'm driving. I can only hear it if I'm driving slowly or stopped completely (the normal engine/road noise is too loud to be able to hear it when driving at highway speeds).
With an equalizer that's not working right, could that affect the noise level that comes out of the speakers? Maybe that will be the next thing I try changing. They're kind of hard to find though...
I did manage to get my audio system working in my living room, hooked up to a 12v jetski battery. The sound level of the system hooked up out of my vehicle is just the same as when it's in the vehicle, so I guess I can eliminate the wiring in the vehicle as the problem. Thanks again for the wiring diagrams and tips! That made it really easy to figure out.

No problems, glad to be able to help!
Added a "readers own pictures" section so please go ahead and send me pictures of the Saab Clarion installations in your vehicles! E-mail can be found in the bottom of the webpage.

Here we go! Here's the odd thing- the circuit that drives the lcd backlights is dead on this, so I replaced the rest of the bulbs and reassembled, but forgot to put the black plastic frame/filter back around the lcd glass. Now light from the buttons bleeds through and lights up the lcd just fine.
Now my only issue, as far as usability goes, is that after about 10 minutes, I think the amp overheats or something as the sound cuts in and out in a steady pattern. I have several other 86-87 amps, but they all have problems : / Maybe a cleaning will do

I'd have had it to you by now, but my scanner is fighting me. I feel like I've just been paddling upstream
edit: I scanned it cover to cover tonight, but somehow it saved as an rtf document instead of pdf so some data was garbled. GAH!Last edited by drwatson32; 20 November 2012 at 06:26.

Emailed you a pdf of the '87 manual! I sold my '85 and '91 cars to my indie, but they are just sitting in his lot... I might be able to snag the audio equipment manuals from them, too, if you want pdfs of them.
