    My Betty Crocker Saab 2.8

    Hello

I thought I would try to be creative and title my thoughts on all the pieces I may have to replace on my 2006 Aero convertible 2.8 T.

So far all the washer nozzles and the overflow tank. http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=24826

Yesterday while checking the fluids I discovered the brake reservoir cap was cracked.

I used super glue to be able to reseal the tank until I can get a new cap.

Does anyone know if adding a heat barrier around theses pieces may help protect them? The turbo must just bake the engine compartment.

Thoughts on prevention.? Just hit 61,000 miles. Fans seem to work normal so no issue there.

    Thanks!
    Carter

It's not only the Turbo, but I bet the Arizona sun too! Is the car dark colored? You could put a turbo wrap to get under hood temperatures down.

For sure Phoenix is warm and short distance trips don't help. The color is "silver"

I will look into a turbo wrap. Also I notice the dry cell battery I put in a few thousand miles ago is sealed but the round plugs for the top had popped up. I pushed the seal and sticker back down. So I expect the battery to get baked also. I bought one with 3 year 100% replacement so I will go thru at least one before then based on living in the desert.

    Thanks

Yes. The only thing is, with a turbo wrap it is that more important for you to change your oil religiously. That heat has to go somewhere and it will go out your turbo and into the exhaust. That means having good quality, fresh oil on the turbo is even more important than without the turbo wrap.

Thanks. I will think about it. I use 0-40 Mobil 1 and change at 5000 miles so that is probably good. May do nothing other than keep eye on the plastic pieces.

will these turbo wrap prevent the coolant bottle from melting too?

The idea with the wrap is to take turbo heat out of the compartment and out the exhaust. I will think it will lower total temp under the hood and help save the plastic pieces.

Betty Crocker is a cookbook my mom used and is fairly famous (food too) -- Hence the turbo is baking my Saab!

To date I have not tried the wrap.

Wrapped my battery, did not seem to change the outcome of battery failure due to 'Betty Crockering' from the turbo. I have found that popping the hood after turning off the car seems to help reduce the heat sink, and it really warms up the garage. I just had a accident with a person backing up into me with a BIG JEEP and the trailer hitch destroyed my hood. Thinking about adding some vents into my new hood to keep the heat down.
