We've been dealing with it as they post, somehow they're getting through the automated spam bot bouncer that usually keeps them from getting in in the first place.

The forum gets visited legitimately by the likes of Google and Yahoo and other search engine bots searching for net stuff. My guess is that putting their links here they get farmed by these bots in hope of earning some clicks, and thence cents on the clicks.

Most of the time these spammers are not even human. Just robots looking for vulnerable forums and bypassing the registration rules. I used to check all new registrations and will go back doing that. I set the Location and My Saabs fields to be required at registration. That's an easy way to determine spam robots because they usually enter some gibberish in those fields.
Another option is to moderate all new users but I don't like having delays for legitimate users and having to approve all new posts for new members.

Yeah I could see that as being a lot of work. I'm sure we all have other lives besides sitting on a computer all day. Especially to sit and approve new members, but I have noticed a bunch of spam in the few topics I have either started or commented on.
