Now, now. I have had engines out and done a couple transmission changes. The oil really didn't look that bad. But I did put new in. But on my new t8 I have not changed it, nor do I worry about it. I've not had issues with c900 transmissions, so I guess it's not something that worries me. (transmission work was on cars bought with shot trannies).
anyway, it's not the first thing I'd tackle.

There's plenty of factors at play, but when I had a 5 speed 2.1L, I averaged 29-30mpg, 33mpg on a trip. It made my 8v n/a, at the time, seem like a thirsty pickup truck. I really do admire the powerband and all-around smoothness of that engine/LH2.4 system
