The Hepu pump (made in Germany) with all the gaskets is only $62 so I may as well order it in case I need it. If I don't, I can always sell it again or keep it for future replacement. When I have that side of the engine all open, I may as well replace it. Not a big deal, really.
My previous 9-5 is currently up for sale and is not registered so I can't use it.

Look at the tube that connects the water pump to the block. The orings on that tube like to leak. Hou can pull the pump and replace just the orings

You shouldn't need the gasket. Make sure you have worm gear clamps on hand for the raditor and bypass hoses. The tension clamps wont hold on an old hose once they are removed.

When I replaced my water pump with the Hepu, I used the OEM pressure clamps, they worked just fine and I haven't had even a drop of coolant leak out. I also used WIS recommended Gleitmo 805 on all of the O rings and
coated the the torx screws holding the two halves of the pump together with a white loctite designed for applications involving water, ( I should note that when I took my water pump apart, I found white sealant on the threads
of the torx screws, which is why I reapplied it). I also put a very thin skim coat of Loctite 518 on each side of the paper gasket, I wasn't taking any chances. Gleitmo 805 is really difficult and expensive to obtain, but if you contact Lakeside industrial supply and are real nice to the lady who answers the phone, she'll probably help you out.
Gleitmo is used by Nascar, so it's serious stuff..
You should definitely check the pulley for play while everything is still installed in the car. Just take the tension off of the pulley tensioner, if you feel any play or slop in the pulley, then your pump is gone. The pulley should feel really tight.Last edited by photousa; 11 December 2012 at 23:57.

Loss of coolant - water pump?
Frank there was a TSB for the '05 9-5s leaking coolant out of the o-ring that seals the tube that goes into the back of water pump. Based on the location of the leak and amount you're losing, I'd say that's probably the culprit.

Great detective work! I checked the WIS and this shows for that TSB. My VIN is 53519601 and is within that range of vehicles affected. Mystery solved, now I just have to go in and fix.
Leakage from the coolant pump
Cars affected: Saab 9-5 M05 within Vehicle Identification Number range 53502502 - 53521624 with engine variant B235 and B205.
Background
There have been instances where the O-ring on the coolant pipe to the coolant pump does not fully fulfill the technical requirements. In some cases this can result in leakage of coolant from the O-ring. In some cases the coolant pump has been replaced unnecessarily to rectify the leakage. It is the defective O-ring which should be replaced.

I received the new o-ring on Friday and opened it up today. This picture shows the bottom of the coolant pipe into the pump. It wasn't wet with coolant but it sure looked like something was leaking.
It wasn't too difficult to get to it. You basically have to remove the turbo intake pipe so no need need to remove the actual water pump.
The O-ring that was in there. Looks like a FAIL to me.
New O-ring on the right.
It sure looks like this was the problem. Without that TSB, I would have replaced all the gaskets and O-rings and possible the entire pump which is a much more involved and time-consuming repair. Replacing this O-ring only took about 1.5 hours. Thanks everybody!

I think I have a similar problem. Losing coolant pretty regularly but just recently I am getting an odd rattle noise from the front passenger area of the engine bay. I think I will loosen the tensioner belt to see if I can locate the culprit. My car has under 60k miles.
