Saabs in movies and on TV

Saab is a special ride and Saab drivers are also unusual drivers with a special personality and choice and Hollywood movies showed them with farther details. For example "As good as it gets" Jack Nicholson was a writer with a personality disorder and he was driving a convertible Saab 9-3which is against his personality disorder (it is convertible which would be noisy and dusty !!) and non common choice .
So tell us more what you think about Saab in Hollywood movies and your comments about it.

The C900 convertible seems to be a regular in cinema, Paul Giamatti drives a red 900t in Sideways, Iben Hjejle drives a Platana Grey '91 SE in High Fidelity with John Cusack and if I remember right Ben Stiller drove a Eucalyptus Green 900t in Reality Bites(?) or one of his other early movies.

How about Richard Pryor's Moving (1988), a movie where a Saab 900 is pretty much a supporting actor. The movie is a pretty funny and also Richard Pryor's last starring role. It is worth watching just for the Saab alone, but the end isn't pretty for the car...


In it Pryor is Arlo, who lost his job in New Jersey but finds one in Idaho. To move there he hires a man (Dana Carvey) to drive his beloved Saab to Idaho, and he also hires some less than reliable guys to move his household to Boise. Carvey's character ends up being a schizo who trashes the car on the way to Idaho. It's not Pryor's best movie, but Dana Carvey is as good as in any other movie he's been, which is to say hilarious.

I just found out the original Wallander series is now showing on Netflix. Nice to see some Saabs on TV again.







The Swedish Wallander drives a Saab 9-3 while the British Wallender usually drives a Volvo S80.





However, this is a very special 9-3 because it has the interior of a 2006+ 9-5...! At least, that's what they show in several scenes.

In Royal Pains, there's a green 900 S Cabrio. It does seem to change from an S to a Turbo between episodes...





There's also a tv show in the UK called New Tricks. There's a 9-3 Aero Cabrio that is regularly shown.


There's also a Sherlock Holmes series with Benedict Cumberbatch where there's a Saab 900 which appears to be broken down. How rude.

Does anyone remember the character named "Saabs" from the movie "Crazy People" with Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah? Saabs was one of the nuts who did nothing but talk about Saabs. How about the Seinfeld episode where Jerry got his 94 convertible Saab similar to mine stolen (I think it was a 94). The episode was shot in 94, guess it could have been a 95.
