Remote locking and sticky key in ignition

Without any warning, the remote locking/opening by key has stopped working and the key appears rather 'sticky' in the ignition barrel, have to prod it in and out. Car only locks with manually turning the central locking at drivers door side and also the radio stays on when pulling the key out of the ignition barrel. Tried the spare key which also works in a similar manner. Appears some contact is being lost between key and ignition barrel but why are the remote lock/open buttons on the key not working? Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

The outer part of the ignition barrel is probably stuck in. Try wiggling your key before taking it out.

I am pretty sure the remote locking won't work if there is a key in the ignition. You're describing a sticky ignition barrel where the car thinks the key is still in there, even when it is not.

Removing and cleaning the ignition switch cylinder will fix your problem. http://saabworld.net/f29/ignition-sw...b-9-5-a-26395/

    Well, what can I say!
Just turned the transponder cover clockwise and back again (black plastic surround collar to the ignition) without removing it and everything is back to normal again, key remote locking works fine and the radio now switches off when key pulled out with a smooth insert of the key into the barrel.
Thanks to all for the tips.
