Ticking noise under hood, NOT lifters or APC solenoid.
Here's something that might be easy for someone with more experience with these cars. My '98 CSE makes a ticking noise that is NOT lifter tick. It comes and goes in 20-30 second intervals, ticks about 8 times a second, same speed regardless of engine revs or road speed, seems like it's coming from the passenger side (right side of car) toward the rear of the engine bay, behind the firewall but not in the cabin. A few things come to mind. Do these cars have an electric vacuum pump for cruise control? Or is there some relay or solenoid controlled vacuum valve I should look at? The APC solenoid is working fine, makes a slightly different sound that's not very audible with the hood shut.

It's not the fuel/charcoal canister clicking?... I hear mine the most when I'm idling like in the bank's drive thru.

I don't know. Could be! I'll check that valve. Where is it located?

Well, I'm changing that fender soon due to rust! Convenient...
