Coda stops car assembly, to be liquidated
Demise of Coda Automotive Means Lonelier Electric-Car Owners - Businessweek
Only 100 were built. According to the article, Ebay is their only hope for parts. Fisker is also dead. Tesla is not.

Never even heard of Coda before but I also have no interest in electric cars whatsoever. It's a flawed concept and has no mainstream future.

There is a limited market for electric cars. If there is a 2 car household, one car could be used for daily commuting. If there is only one car, an electric car is not practical.
In a few crowded cities, renting an electric car, like the Zipcar hourly rental concept, might work. However, the cheapest form of ownership is where there is one owner that keeps the car in good condition. There is no pride in ownership with a rental car. Rental cars are not taken care of as well, resulting in higher costs, not to mention the cost of administration of any program. The question then becomes whether the savings from not using fossil fuels is eaten up by administrative costs and costs from cars being treated roughly.
