    Replacing front torque rod mount

    Hi,
I was under the car the other day , the torque rod mount on the transmission was torn and looking pretty shabby (this is on an '99 9-5, automatic).

So the question is, how to replace and how difficult is this ?
Do I just unbolt the old one and bolt the new one on? Do I need to jack up the transmission or engine while I do this?

    Thanks

Easy job. No need to jack up the transmisison for support while doing this. The only difficult part is loosening the nut on the radiator support end of the torque rod as it is tightened to nearly 100 ft-lbs. You will need a breaker bar on one end and a long profile 18mm combination wrench on the other end. Standard length wrenches won't give you the leverage you need.

Are you replacing the whole torque rod or just the bushings? If you're doing just the bushing, I'd recommend the "sport mount" offered from GenuineSaab.com. I just installed it in my Aero a week or two ago, and is a big improvement.

What do you mean by "big improvment" what feels different, big improvment over stock or over the worn out old bushing? I took a peek at mine and it's looking pretty rough also, going to check out the price on a new one at the dealership today.

Well at least as far as automatics are concerned, it makes the shifts out of park into reverse, drive, etc a lot cleaner with less hesitation and it stiffens everything up as it doesn't allow for as much play as the stock bushing. The trade-off is a little more vibration at idle, but I went in with my Tech 2 and bumped up the idle speed offset about 50 rpm and the vibration was minimized. For the $30 to $40 and the 20 minutes I took to install it, I feel it was an improvement.

    Hi MI-Roger,

My car as 1999model, so may be little defferent to your car(2000model).
My torque rod is tightened to body with two bolt and to transmisison with one bolt.
Pls kindly let me know if you know the which one is tightened to nearly 100 ft-lbs, and the other one is how's
    tightened torque.
And I would like to know the correct torque setting Because I will do it on next week.

22 ft-lbs for those bolts. 34 ft-lbs for the thru bolt at the transmission bracket. Your car also has a rear torque bar which was omitted after the 1999 model year after it was discovered the bar did nothing.

My 2000 model has a thru bolt at the leading end which has the high torque value.

Sorry about my late response. I haven't visited this site in a couple weeks.
