2002 Saab 9-5 Aero has no manumatic shifting???
I just got my 2002 saab aero with only 82k miles on it. The only reason I considered an auto was because I heard of the paddle shifters they have... Anyways, when I went to check the car out, I found no option for manual shifting, not with the actual shifter, nor any paddle shifters on the wheel. I almost turned the car down on the spot, but the overall awesomeness of it made me get it.

So, I'm wondering, why doesn't my aero have the manumatic shifting?? I haven't heard of any auto aero not having it... NOw i'm thinking that the tranny was swapped out or something ridiculous

No paddle shifter on the 02. They came later, but don't feel bad. They are too stupid for words and are a useless thing unless you are stuck in snow or something and even then pretty much pointless.

agreed, I bought an auto aero wagon a few years ago to replace my 03 5 speed sedan, I kept it for about 5 months then traded it in. The autos "manumatic" shifting sucked, it was worthless. You are not missing anything, except for the 5 speed

Sentronic didn't take hold in the 9-5 until MY2003 here. The gearbox itself is pretty solid so long as you change the fluid at the recommended intervals but to echo everyone else's thoughts, the paddle shifters are pretty useless.

I love the paddle shifters!
Just kidding. I played with them a few times but I'm happy with how it shifts in D or S. There a novelty item. Probably just to show off to the BMW etc crowd. (Look my automatic is a manual too.)
I have a 5 speed manual in my 04 Dakota. What a pain. I wish it was automatic.

The paddle shifters are useful for controlling engine speed when going downhill and you don't want to use your brakes. But besides that, I am not using them either. The Sport button is much more fun.
