    Poor mileage

Have a 2001 9-5 SE (V-6, ~70K miles) that has started to get worse and worse gas mileage. Right now around town I'm looking at about 20 mpg. Previously I was averaging about 23-25 mpg. New plugs, fuel filter, air filter installed about 1 year ago, new timing belt 6 months ago, tires inflated properly, easy driving habits, using 93 octane. Oil change regularly. I do know I'm getting a code for a catalytic converter error (told by mechanic it needs replacement but that'll have to wait). Could it be my O2 sensor(s) are bad and am getting incorrect air/fuel mixture? Not much of an expert there so any help would be appreciated.

possible its O2 sensors, but would expect codes to set if they were bad. May be a bad PCV valve. Ours snapped at one side a while back & only clue something was wrong was mileage went down. Otherwise drivability stayed good. Visibly the valve looked OK until I pulled at the hoses and it pulled apart. After the change, mileage is back to previous.

O2 sensors set their own faults when bad - but if you have a P0420 cat code likely the cat is bad and yes you will see reduced fuel economy until repaired. I would reccoment new O2 (at least the front one) with a new Cat. The aftermarket cats seem to work OK but I am not a fan of them.
