SAABtoberfest Returns!


When? October 12, 2013, 8:00 AM

Where? Swedish Motors, 7 N. Decatur Street, Marietta, PA

What Time? 8:00 light breakfast, 9:00 Tech Session with a Q&A Session afterwards, followed by a MANDATORY Drivers Meeting, all leading up to a rally style start at one minute intervals beginning at 10:00.

Who? This event is limited to the first 25 pre-registered teams of 4 cars each (100 total cars). Each team must be led by a driver with navigator; the remaining 3 cars are not required to have a navigator. Teams may pre-register together or as a lone car to be assigned to a team arbitrarily.

Why? Rally teams will head out for the morning leg, crossing through several covered bridges in Lancaster County. The morning leg will end with a (bring or buy your own) picnic lunch stop and break session which will be approximately 75 miles.
The afternoon leg of the run will cover scenic back road in rural Lebanon and Berks counties of approximately the same distance as the morning leg, with a destination stop for dinner and the awards presentation for gimmick answers, correct mileage and overall winner.

What about rules?All rally rules posted prior to the event will be adhered to or participant(s) will be disqualified and will be shunned by an Amish family for no less than 12 months. No shenanigans. No nonsense. Act like a responsible adult or remain at home in your mother's basement with your Xbox. Decisions by the Rallymaster are final and not subject to negotiation. Attempts to negotiate or plead with the Rallymaster will be met with ridicule and sarcasm. Or both depending on his mood. Don't press your luck. This year's SAABtoberfest is being brought back as an "Idiot Free event". If you drive like an idiot, have been called an idiot when behind the wheel or secretly admit to yourself that you are indeed an idiot, then you most likely are an idiot and your driving style will not be met with open arms.


Radios? Each team must be able to communicate between their team cars by: CB, FRS, GMRS, PTT (via cell) or other acceptable 2-way radio. Cell phones and texting are expressly prohibited and do not meet this requirement. Anyone driving while texting will be removed from the event without exception. Communication MUST be available between cars in the form of GMRS, FRS, CB or other two-way radio gear legal for use in the lower 48 states. Communication CANNOT be via cell, text, smoke signals, mirrors, tin cans and string or semaphore.


Why are we doing it this way? Simple question with a simple answer. SAFETY. For anyone who participated in any of the previous fall events, you should have no argument about the need to run this event as safely as possible. Each team will govern their actions according to their own skills and we will not tolerate any unsafe behavior. We all know what unsafe behavior is when we see it, and none will be tolerated. CPSC has run many top-shelf driving events in the past, including many large driving tours without mishap. We are resuscitating SAABtoberfest after a long dormancy because of continued interest and demand for a fall driving event in Central Pennsylvania. Thanks to the support of Rich Kushner and his team at Swedish Motors, we are able to bring this storied event back to life.
