Bad alternator and won't shift from Park
I blew my alternator and even when I get the car to start it won't shift out of park. I believe it's some type of security issue. The car is a 2001 Saab 9-5 3.0t v6. Can anyone tell me how to get it to shift?

To get it someplace there is an override. You stick your screwdriver in and it releases the gear shift. I forget where it is but I think I saw it in my owners manual.

Possible issues. Gear shift solenoid a complicated fix. Brake switch above the arm of your brake pedal. Pretty easy. Loose nut on the Neutral safetyy switch. He is a rite up on that from SC:
Just wanted to follow up with everyone--- I finally had to have the car towed to the mechanics because everything I had tried failed to get the shifter "unstuck". Within minutes they found the problem-- it was a loose nut on the gear selector right above the neutral safety switch (which I had cleaned and replaced last summer)...I apparently had not tightened the nut enough. They charged me $200 to tighten one nut and tow my car. Totally felt ripped off, so if anyone is having this problem, be sure to check on the gear selector arm!
