Installed Cadillac SRX Hitch Kit 22758505
Well, to end any need for speculation, I spent a day of my holiday break to install the Cadillac trailer hitch kit (gm p/n 22758505) on my 9-4x Aero.
The kit consists of the:
Trailer Hitch, Rear Fascia Closeout, Trailer Wiring Harness and any hardware (bolts, nuts, nut feed wire, etc).
The hitch and the wiring harness fit as is without modification. It's a very nice hitch and apparently has 4 more mounting points than most aftermarket ones i have seen online for a total of 8 (so 2x). The kit includes two bolts to add to the impact beam that connects with the frame. On the drawing it shows three factory installed bolts on each side and a spot for a fourth, but as far as i can tell, my saab had the fourth bolt already installed on each side.
installation requires the lowering of the exhaust which in turn requires the removal of the exhaust outlets. that is probably the biggest pain of the process as the screws for the outlets are hard to get to. everything else is quite clean.
As for the fascia cutout cover, it is not a direct fit. it requires a little bit of trimming in the upper corners where apparently the SRX does not stick out as far as the saab. There is also a gap on each side.
also, the tabs that attach it to the fascia up top do not match and are in different locations, except for the middle tab. the underneath clips are in the correct position. So on the top, it is only held on by one clip. on the bottom, two screw on clips.
Below are some pictures of the fascia cover before, after and installed.
the bottom line is this SRX kit is available from most GM dealers in the $400s. If the saab kit is indeed $800-something and is the only way to get the correct fascia cover, that essentially makes the cover a $400 part. So, i am willing to live with a few gaps and save a few hundred bucks. Hopefully the Saab cover is available as a stand alone someday and then i can replace this one, but until then, i am happier with this than the bare hitch showing or with $400 more dollars missing from my savings.
Happy new year.

my apologies, i misspoke. the hitch kit calls out what engines require a cooler and the part number. the 2.8L already has a cooler installed. here is the exact verbiage:
HITCH PKG, TRLR (INSTALL .80) (15.043 KGS) (FIXED) (INCLS 2" HITCH RECEIVER, CVR, HARN) (07.068)
(3500LB TOWING CAPACITY AND LF1/LFW/LFX ENGS,
REQS COOLER PKG 19244237 OR 22772227. LAU ENG COMES W/COOLER.)

Correct from what I hear as long as your not doing it on a daily basis you can tow a bit more.

yea, my gm parts contact showed me the same thing but said they were discontinued. i suspect they still make them for saab parts na but we're gouging through their network. haven't ordered one yet. i should do that just to get to the bottom of this.
