Availability of rod and main bearings for Saab
I have not been able to find a source for new rod or main bearings on Saab engines. I have excellent resources as I used to design engine bearings for Dura-Bond bearing company and yet still, I cannot find a new bearing anywhere.
I do have a source for custom made rod and main bearings however and would be happy to extend my resources to anyone who is serious about rebuilding their Saab engine. All I will need is the specifications regarding the original journal diameter and the original bearing bore diameter plus the location and configuration of the tang and I will be able to design a proper bearing for any Saab engine.
The cost is for the tooling. especially the broach which can be expensive but is 100 percent reusable. Let me know if anyone is interested.Last edited by George McKinnon; 23 January 2014 at 19:03.

- Several! An '86 900, a '96 900, an '05 9-5...
George.... have just read your intriguing offer. I have a friend whose '01 9-5 (with the 2.3 turbo) has one rod bearing that is "knocking." I'm assuming that if I open up the motor, from below, that I'll find that that one crankshaft journal is several thousands "thinnner" than even a plus 25 rod shell could compensate for. Are you speaking to the possibility that a set of oversized shells could be made through you to repair this particular problem?
I'm assuming making a set of four (eight) shells is not much more expensive than making one set. But such a set may cost several hundred dollars?
Just wondering!! Will be glad for your reply..... rob
