9-5 Turbo compatibility: '01 Aero in '02 Linear?
The turbo in my '02 Linear is shot (blowing oil into exhaust and intercooler, etc.). I have a turbo from my '01 Aero. Does anyone know if this will work as an upgrade, and if so, would I need to change anything other than the turbo? I'm out of vehicles (all three 9-5s are out of commission) and need to either order a turbo/parts, or get use the '01 Aero turbo, but I don't want to put it in if it's not compatible.
Also, is it essential to clean the paths through the intercooler to the throttle body, or should I just swap/rebuild the turbo and run it for a while?
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

It will fit - it will work. You WILL need to get a few thing to make it fit 100%
New or proper TD04 (Aero) Banjo Bolts for the turbo and copper seals. The oil return MAY be different you may want to get that too. The lines are compatible -but you need to size up the copper washers to the line as well to take up a little space. I did this swap on my 2000 9-3 from a GT17 to a TD04. You will want to find the later intake "cobra" style intake pipe as well to optimize the turbo upgrade. Also the 2005+ 9-5's all had a larger plastic intake snorkel off the air box - get that too. They are like $25 new from Saab.European Motor Services, LLC - Point Pleasant, PA 18950 - www.europeanmotorsvc.com

Thanks, Burnsside42. I'll actually be taking the turbo off my '01 9-5 Aero, so its washers, hoses, pipes, etc., will hopefully be usable for the transfer. Thanks for the info!

Thanks, burnsside42 and all, for your thoughts and input. I got both turbos are out. Not too much trouble. I used the pictorial guide from Thesaabguy (SAAB Turbocharger DIY | theSAABguy ). Main problem was a stripped oil supply banjo bolt head. Managed to grab the collar with vise grips and break it free that way.
The far-end hose/banjo connections appear to be identical. Didn't check the turbo ends, but I think they are the same, too. I took the TD04 out of my '01 9-5 Aero sedan and am putting it in my '02 9-5 Linear sedan.
I'll update this post once finished.
