Why the SID message?
Hey, all!
Still loving the 9-5! I have a question, though. Yesterday, my SID came up with, "Time for service," or something like that. Why? Its had its 60000 mile service and right now I'm at 71500, so I'm still a ways away from the 75000 mile mark. Its not even due for an oil change till 76000, so I'm a bit confused.
Any ideas?

Actually, what I believe the message said was, "Service needed soon." I'll have to look at it this evening and make sure.

Perhaps the service reminder wasn't reset with the last service? I think the SID only monitors and shows the oil condition (how the vehicle was used). Were there any other oil changes after the 60K service?

The oil was changed about 1000 miles ago. Could there be any other reasons besides the service thing not being reset? I'll have to check and see exactly when the last service was done

I thought the service indicator worked purely based of miles since the last service message or the last time it was reset. My guess would be that they didn't reset it when it was last serviced.

I always changed my oil at around 6K miles so I never paid attention to the service message on the SID.

This is the message its giving me. The last service was done a little more than 10000 miles ago, so maybe the service indicator hasn't been set properly for some time. Is there a way to reset it after they do the service if I clear the message now? I would definitely like it to pop up when its supposed to

I'm pretty sure if you just hold the "clear" button it will reset it. After holding for about 3 seconds, it will chime/beep, but keep holding until it chimes and beeps again (you have to hold for like 30 seconds). I'm pretty sure it resets it... I've only used that when it comes up, but I don't see why it wouldn't work when it's not up.

So, to bring this back up, any reason why the message would suddenly stop coming up? Didn't try to clear it, it just went away all by itself...
