NAV screen dark and unresponsive
Not sure where to start looking for answers this problem. The screen will look like it is back lit sometimes but nothing is displayed, no buttons generates a display on the screen. Can it be a fuse, if so which one? Any help is welcome

Given the screen is working in audio modes, check fuse #20 in the REC, which is supply for the DVD only.

As it turns out there is no CD in the player, trunk or dash. If I am getting this right I need the CD to run the Nav system, correct? Also, the screen does not work in any modes, no response when pushing any of the buttons on the unit except the radio, CD. It is totally black, except for an occasional backlight. Is it possible that the fiberoptic is disconnected or broken along the way causing this problem? I can live without the NAV, specially since system, specially if I can't update the information.

You need a DVD with the navigation maps: http://saabworld.net/f146/saab-9-3-a...259/#post40680
So if you don't have that, it makes sense only the radio and CD player work.

yeah, that makes sense once I realized that all the data is actually pulled from a CD not a drive in the system itself. This also means that the maps are going to be old. From what I understand there are no updates available for this, correct?

That is true. But will the NAV CD enable the radio and Cd player functions on the display screen, guessing not and that that is a different issue. Can the be a fiber optic circuit break since it all is connect in series and the NAV happens to be behind the radio and CD in order of how it is hooked up? I am going to take a look at all the fuses again in case I missed something.

Correct, the absence of a nav disc should still allow the radio and CD player to work. Could be a faulty head unit as well.
