CPS and fuel delivery
This is my third Saab. Previously owned two 9000s. One a hp turbo and one low pressure turbo. I'm here today to find out if a bad crank position sensor will prevent fuel delivery to the cylinders. There is fuel to the rail but no fire on start attempt. Engine will start and run for a few revs with fuel being added to the intake so there is spark. Fuel pump and filter are good. What failed part would stop fuel delivery to engine. The problem began with having to crank the engine more than once to start it and then got progressively harder to start.

They are not related. Having fuel at the rail does not mean your pump is good.

Any word on what the no start thing was?

I had a bad CPS on my 99 B235E and it prevented the car from starting. Replacing it should do the trick. The connection for the sensor is a blue connector next to where the front an rear oxygen sensors connect which is by the throttle body. The sensor is on the front of the engine and is easiest to get to if you drop the front part of the exhaust. I believe it is held on with at T30 torx screw which also holds the shield on that covers it.

I had a intermittent no start and sometimes stall at idol problem. I just changed the CPS and hope that fixes it.
It just started and now I'm letting my wife go to the grocery store with it. I hope she doesn't call...

Well she didn't call and the car has worked fine for me on my outing this evening.
If anything it idols a bit rougher... It could just be me though. Squeezing the steering wheel at lights grumbling at it to keep running...
I hope to change the fuel filter tomorrow afternoon. Rain is forecast though. So it may be a few more days before I get to it.
