I am planning a ribbon replacement in the bear future but I have a question if anyone has done it before. Every time I start the car now, the clock resets to 12:00. I'm assuming that there is also a battery inside the SID? If so, once I replace the battery as well as the ribbon as it is hard to read the display, will I need to marry it to the car?

How do we know if we have SID 1 or 2? I have a 2002 9-3 hatchback
and where would we recommend buying a new ribbon in the US?

As far as ive been able to tell, you have to open the sid and look at the ribbon. There is a slight difference between the 2 ribbons. There is no battery inside it though. I had a blown fuse which affected the back lights as well as keeping the time and date set.

There should be a sticker on the outside of the SID. But I would open it to check. Heres a link to an image showing the difference between the 2
