Saab 9-5 2.3t B235 engine misfire
Hello fellow members,
I am having an issue with my 2001 Saab 9-5 2.3t. As you probably already know from the title, it is having a misfire. In cylinder 1 or 2. (I know this because it is throwing code p1312). I know that a misfire can be caused by three things (Compression, ignition, or fuel). I have re-gapped the spark plugs, and when this failed to fix the issue, i replaced them. still having problems. that still leaves the possibility of a faulty direct ignition cassette to rule out ignition as the cause of the misfire. Now because of this being a direct ignition with no wires, it makes it hard to tell if the plugs are actually firing. So I am thinking that i might remove the ignition cassette and see which plugs are firing when i turn over the engine. or perhaps i just look and see which plugs appear to have fired by the color of them, seeing as how they are all new. Anyways the point of this post is to see what others have experienced and get some guidance. if it is the fuel however, some instructions from the WIS on how to replace fuel injectors would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

P1312 is almost always a failing DIC. If it hasn't been replaced for a few years, replacing it is the first step. I think when DICs start to fail, they'll still fire all the plugs. Do you have the correct NGK plugs for your engine?

Ok. I had saw that information already. I was looking for a more definite fix. From what I got from reading it was that it could be the DIC, Spark plug, or Wiring Harness

Wulf, i put the correct ngk spark plugs in and installed with dielectric grease as well. It is my sisters car and she wants to be sure a new "ignition thingie" will fix the problem so i am hoping it will

Can't you change out the DIC with one from one of your other 9-5 and test to see if the error goes away? Either way, it is always a good idea to have a spare "ignition thingie" on hand. It's not a matter if they fail but when they fail.

If the plugs were replaced recently but have seen some miles since then, you could always try pulling them (and keeping careful track) to see if you can tell which cylinder has the issue. A new DIC would be my first step because, as Wulf said, even if your original DIC happens to be ok then a spare DIC is a great thing to have and will almost certainly be put to use at some point. I've seen good results with my ProParts Sweden remanufactured DIC, which made the replacement relatively affordable.
