    turbo coolant leak

    Well, where do i begin, I have a 1999 9-3 Convertible 2.0 litre. (last 6 vin are 021389)
I suspected a coolant leak through the head gasket so I replaced that. It seemed to solve the problem. The car was belching white smoke so thick it could have been a fog machine. After replacing the head gasket the white smoking returned and I am at my wits end to figure it out. I can only think of two possibilities. The head gasket was installed improperly or that was never the problem in the first place. I am suspecting the turbo. A crack allowing the coolant to be injected directly into the engine. I have been looking for a used one but I have been unsuccessful thus far. I have also been unable to find out information about my particular turbo to see what years and models might be interchangeable. Has anyone had any experience with this problem? It has been a very good car and would like to solve this problem.

Or a third one: both the head gasket and the turbo

With the description of the smoke, and if no signs of water in the oil, would my first thought be the turbo.

Not knowing exactly what engine is in question here, is the OEM P/N (according to the EPC) for the B204E and -L, i.e. 154 - / 185 hp engines, no. -X107570, 91 46 010; when no longer supplied replaced by P/N 30584575 or 90490362.

    For the B204E and -L engines, no. X107571-, 91 98 318, replaced by 30584575.

    For the B204R (200 hp) engine, no. -X107570, 91 85 372, replaced by 30584735 or 90490362.

    For the B204R (200 hp) engine, no. X107571-, 91 98 326, replaced by 30584735.

The turbochargers for the B205 - / B235 engines do of course have different P/Ns.

EDIT: Engine numbers - not VIN!

Thanks for the reply, I guess I have to get the engine right. I am not sure where you get the "B204" numbers from but it is a 'N' type engine with a standard output. None of the VINs you have provided match mine in any way.Mine is X702. It says the engine family ISXSAXV02.0TD1. I have uploaded a picture although I am not sure how helpful that would be. I am hoping that I would be able to swap out one from a same model and year. Buying an oem one is $1,000+ (yikes!)

    Hi,

The eight letter of the VIN is the key for the engine variant -

EDIT: I do clearly see the confusion I made, the numbers given pertains to engine numbers - and not VIN .
