Saab parts distributor Orio acquires American e-commerce company Protech1

While the media and enthusiast attention is currently focused on the difficult situation at NEVS, the manufacturer of Saab cars, there is another important company related to Saab that is expanding its business. As you probably know, Saab Parts AB changed its name to Orio in 2013 and is steadily expanding its business in addition to Saab. Saab Parts AB was originally part of Saab Automobile AB and was left out of the bankruptcy proceedings in 2012.

By acquiring American e-commerce company Protech1, they gain access to an e-commerce platform as well as a storage and distribution system. This likely means better and faster distribution of Saab parts to Saab service centers.

As Saab owners and enthusiasts, it's nice to see some positive news about the brand and to know they are working hard to keep our Saabs on the road. It's also good to see Tim Colbeck, the former Saab Cars NA President and COO, is still with the Orio as well.

    Orio acquires American e-commerce company

Orio AB, formerly Saab Automobile Parts AB, through its wholly owned subsidiary Orio North America Inc., is acquiring the assets of the American e-commerce company Protech1, which operates in the North American market. The acquisition gives Orio access to an e-commerce platform, modern storage and distribution systems and additional distribution opportunities in the USA. The company can thus accelerate the ongoing expansion of the spare parts sales of both Saab Original parts and the range of spare parts for other car brands in one of its main markets.

"Orio shall grow by broadening its customer base and product range. Through this acquisition, we are adding the capacity to accelerate development in North America, which is one of our largest and most important markets. We now have a platform that is designed to handle a wide range of products and different customer groups, which is exactly what we need as we move from being a niche distributor of Saab Original parts to becoming a distributor of spare parts for other car brands", says Jonas Tegström, newly appointed CEO of Orio AB.

"Besides the opportunity to expand in North America, the acquisition also means that we can benefit from the company's experience prior to the launch of our new business portal", continues Jonas Tegström.

Through its wholly owned subsidiary Orio North America Inc., Orio is acquiring all the assets of Protech1, which has its main warehouse in Burlington, North Carolina. In addition, Orio will gain access to a further 65 distribution points across the USA for the distribution of spare parts. Fast deliveries are of great importance in order to meet the requirements and to be an attractive business partner for the new customer base which is now being brought onboard. The staff, including the former owner, are being offered continued employment.

"The acquisition provides us with immediate opportunities to grow in North America. The e-commerce portal improves our ability to do business with Saab Official Service Centers in addition to giving us capabilities to expand both our product offering and customer base. It also gives us the capacity to improve our service to all of our customers by means of simpler systems and faster deliveries of spare parts", says Tim Colbeck, CEO of Orio's North American subsidiary Orio North America Inc.

Someday it may be time to start Orioworld.net! Or tell people that you drive an Orio, formerly known as Saab.

I was looking for some more info about Protech1 and it turns out it is the same company as www.thesaabsite.com. While it is a website with a lot of good parts information, it never looked and worked like a modern e-commerce site, in my opinion.

Where are we located: We have 3 divisions of Our Websites, 2 in Elon, North Carolina and one in Rock Hill, South Carolina. We have 65 warehouses throughout the United States that our parts can be shipped from but our main warehouse is location in Burlington NC. We try to ship every product from our Burlington warehouse but if it can not be shipped from there we will ship from the closest warehouse to you.
Protech also runs Volvo Parts, Free Tech support and Free information is available at Swedish Auto Parts (formerly thevolvosite.com). Not sure i they have any other sites or brands they supply parts for.

Many seem to be complaining about hefty price hikes that are sending good repairable Saabs to the the scrap yard. It was some folks on SU that were upset and normally I'd take that with a grain of salt but when the loyal keepers of the torch are upset something is behind it. The price of parts is high enough already with the Euro out flanking the US dollar, many dealers won't take Saabs in on trade so this is like a kick in the ballz followed by another.
