- 1999 9-5 wagon
need some advice, been reading a lot but
I need some advice: I am in Bozeman Montana (which is NOT Saab world, I have learned)
I have a 9-5 wagon, 4cyl turbo (VIN "E") 154,000 miles. It is in super condition, except for a blown engine.
Interior is pristine. Turbo has less than 8k miles on it. no leaks, even after engine failure, everything works (except the darn check security system warning that comes up all the time)
I have my eye on a used engine 58k mile, guaranteed sludge free. $1800, plus another 1700 to have it installed.
I love the car, but who knows what's next to go?
Worth it? what about parting it out?
Any opinions would be appreciated.

If your heart is dead set on continuing to drive a Saab, and if the Montana marketplace for used 9-5's is nil, and your car is otherwise in great shape, and you have a competent Saab mechanic lined up, I would opt for the motor replacement. Plan on keeping the car at least 3 more years - hopefully the guarantee is at least a year and in writing.
