    Tech 2 key programming

    Hi,

I bought a new key for my 2005 Saab 9-3 and I want to program it.

For those who are familiar with this procedure, when it asks to insert a valid key , is it the previous key (working) or the new key that I acquired? I get an error message at the end of the procedure and I wonder if this is not because I have inserted the new key at the wrong time.

    *** Key programming failed ***

It was NOT possible to "Add" the key to the CIM.

The first key to be programmed is the one which currently "belongs" (the working -) to the CIM. Both keys to be programmed within 5 minutes.

Key previously used in one car cannot be programmed for another one.

    Good luck

    You're welcome.

I don't think it will make any difference, as it's a driver door only problem, however if not yet done place both keys in the ignition lock to synchronize them. It at least can't hurt

Does the problem apply for both FOBs?

Difficult to say, my old fob, all the buttons are not working haha! I try to lock my driver door with the Tech 2 and it's not locking or unlocking, I think its a problem with the locking system in the door

Cloves, In your profile you're listing a 2000 Saab 9-3 which has a regular hard metal key with remote control and asking about programing an extra key in the 2003 and up 9-3 section where you're going to get smart key answers. The smart key answer is posting #2, the key with remote starts you out by removing the key antenna . Which key are you looking ton add????

Thanks for reminding me digger. I just got the 2007 93 Aero (v6). Just added to my signature.

Maybe I didn't start out by programming the first key. I will try again tomorrow and post back.

Guys just to update, ended up getting a key from europarts and today was able to program the key without any issues. Avoid buying keys off ebay, they are a difference frequency.

I bought just the fob w/o electronics. Transferred from old key.
