Tax disc holder - what is the wire for?

    Hi all!

I've just bought my first Saab - it's a 2003 9-5 Aero, estate, petrol, manual - and I love it!

I'm so impressed with all the nice little touches, this car is so unusual in so many ways.

I wonder if anyone can tell me what the wire leading to the tax disc holder is for?

    Cheers, Mike.

No but you should be aware of the high incidence of engine failures among the Saab 9-5 I 4 engines. Make sure the pan gets dropped and the screen cleaned since they have a long history of clogging and causing the demise of the engine.

Read the Wiki article on the 9-5 and it mentions the engines and a kit.

Are you referring to the plastic transparent clip at the bottom of the A-pillar?

No Wulf, that's for parking tickets etc (I presume) - I'm referring to the tax disc holder at the bottom of the A-pillar on the passenger side...

tunnaxwd, thanks for the heads-up on this - I was actually already aware of it and I intend to check the sump.
I read that the later engines were cured of this by the fitting of a better breather system, which can be identified by the small pipe entering the top of the intake. These were apparently fitted in the 2004 models onwards. Although my car was registered in 2003, it's actually a 2004 model, plus, the previous owner said that he'd had it checked (at considerable cost) at a garage - I haven't had chance to look through the paperwork for the invoice yet though.
But, as I've already said I intend to take the sump off and check it myself - just to be on the safe side :-)

I have never seen something like that before. Could be some aftermarket accessory?

Ah Wulf, I see you live in USA, so you won't have a tax disc holder...

I've spoken to the previous owner, turns out it's part of a phone kit that he had installed...
