It's not really a question of what will physically fit as much as it is what will play nice with all the other components and that means a ton of fooling around, or using a tranny from an 03.

Do we have motor code? Gearbox code?
You can compare them... if they are the same no problem at all.
Otherwise give the vin codes to me I will check the computer and we will find wich gearbox has each engine.
As far as I know every engine code has its own gearbox. A different one shouldn't work properly. But a different fabrication date of the car doesn't mean necessarily that.
I believe both cars are identical.

Sorry. About your second question... for all I know it should only work properly its own gearbox. Again with a VIN code I could give you this gearbox exact identifier. From there you could research a bit and look for gearboxes with the same characteristics. Or I could give you any other saab model that has the same gearbox. Perhaps you can find something. I have no experience on swapping with different components or kits that are not already tested.
