Poor power at take off 2001 Aero

    Hi guy's.
Car runs, starts and even drives fine but when l take off it has poor power and as l accelerate the car kicks back a gear and takes off a bit better put not as it use to. Seams intermittent but getting worse.
Slight pinging on going up hills and poor fuel economy too. Using high octane fuel.
    Also....
Noticed there is a hooting owl sound every now and then once l'm driving at highway speeds, only lasts a second or two and sometimes a high pitched whistle which goes away when l put my foot on the brake pedal, not all the time, only now and then but this doesn't seam connected with the hooting owl sound...any ideas as to whats goin on would be appreciated or any one had same problemo?
    Thank you

Maybe a crack or blown exhaust manifold gasket? What's your boost guage doing now compared to normal? Is it showing a CEL?

Not sure about cracked or blown exhaust manifold gasket, engine seems quite, boost gauge is working normal, no change since low power taking off.

Look around the exhaust manifold - if there's a leak you may see some soot or blackening where the exhaust is leaking out. It could also be caused by a leak between the head and manifold. That's one possible cause of the whistling you're hearing. It could also be something easier to fix (hopefully) such as a hose that's popped off.

Found a broken vacuum T in front of the thermo fan..fixed it but haven't driven any distance yet to see if l have full power back yet. Thanks for your suggestions though, will have a look for exhaust leaks etc also.

Nice, hopefully that was the quick/easy fix we all like! I'll be pulling the manifold on mine once the weather becomes less ridiculously cold here; exhaust manifold stud cracked and it's got a slight leak, only audible at or above 3/4 throttle.
