Weather band radio will not work for my area, Wrong frequency.

My son just bought a 2005 Saab 95 wagon and the weather band worked in the City we bought it in "Toronto", but after getting it home, we can't get the station.I just found out that the weather band frequency MHZ for my area is 162.475.
The Toronto Ontario weather band frequency is 162.400, so the question is, how do you change this frequency? I really like the weather band and miss it in my 08 95 aero that does not have it. Im sure that when dealers would get these cars in, that band would need to be set before selling it. Any thoughts?

The owners manual shows it is supposed to search different frequencies and pick the strongest signal. However, it doesn't say which frequencies it searches. I checked the Saab WIS but the weatherband isn't even mentioned in there.

Press the WB button to select the Weather Band mode. The radio will automatically search for the strongest national weather service station in the area. When a weather band station is received, the display indicates ”WB”. The strongest station generally provides the most accurate information for the area in which you are traveling.

2003 was the last model year with weatherband-equipped head units for North America. Not sure why your son's 2005 9-5 has it but perhaps the head unit was replaced at some point. I thought it was a very cool feature in my 2001 and not sure why they discontinued this feature on later models.

Thanks for looking at this in the WIS, It really does not make sense, I know the thing works because it was one of the things I checked out when test driving the car. You would think it would pull the station, especially since it is so close to the other. As for 2003 being the last year for the WB, weren't all the radios in appearance the same up to 2005 or did they actually leave out the button? As Im saying this, I remember looking in the manual that came with the car and the radio pictures and talks about the WB.

The 2004 and 2005 9-5s that I owned all have a Band button where the Weatherband button used to be. Pressing this button switches between FM1, FM2 and AM.

That is interesting, the radio must have been switched out and only a tech II can do that. Someone went to a lot of trouble to do this. I wonder why the manual in his car still shows the WB being used?

When I had the original head unit in my 2003 9-5, the WB wouldn't always pick up a signal, and it would sometimes pick up the transmission in French.

Depending on your location, ya it was sent out in both english and french. You would have to wait for a while for them to go though the whole recording to hear the english. I talked to my daughter today and she said she thinks she heard it a few days ago when the weather was bad. So it may be only broadcasting when the weather is bad. I asked her to keep an eye on it when the weather changes. In the end it may be all good.
