9-5 suddenly wont start..
Hi all..
Sorry that this has to be my first post here but have just run into a nasty little problem.
5 days ago, I bought an '02 9-5 aero. It's been starting on the button every time, morning noon or night it has not missed a beat.
Did the school run earlier to get the kids. Was sat in the car waiting for the school gates to open and I was listening to the radio.
Got the kids, returned to car... and .. nothing.
It turns over but just will not fire up. I am not sure if it is fuel or spark or something else..
Twice this week the display came up with a theft alarm service message but that does not seem to have had any negative affects so far.. Could it be alarm related? If so, how to bypass alarm?
I thought that maybe fuel pump or the DI unit had decided to give up.. If it is the DI unit, I have a 1992 9000 sat in the drive.. would the DI unit swap over or am I hoping for too much there?
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Check to see if the fuel pump makes noise when you turn on the ignition. You may have to lift up the bottoms of the back seat to hear it better.
Not starting could mean a faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor. Inexpensive and not difficult to replace.
The DIC from the 9000 is not interchangeable with the 9-5 so no go there. When a DIC starts to fail, it usually gives an engine warning light and error codes.

If it is the CPS it should start when motor is cold. Doubt it is the DIC.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the DIC. No codes. Swap out DIC with a known good one.

Next step will be to check fuel pump relay, which is under steering wheel panel. When you first turn key to on position, you should hear fuel pump come on to pressurize system. If you don't, the pump is not working. This can be a fuse, relay, or pump itself. Checking fuse is easy, the relay can be swapped out with another similar relay from the relay box under steering wheel. If pump works, DIC is good, CPS and possibly neutral safety switch would be next.

Do manuals have a neutral safety switch??
Doesn't sound right to me.. Kinda thing you'd expect on an auto..

No, only autos. That leaves CPS and fuel pump. Cold CPS usually starts, but with the convuluted 9 5 ignition troubleshooting process, anything is possible.
