99 SAAB 9-5 SE PCV Replacement Kit fitted or not ?
G'day from Downunder !
Bought a 99 SAAB 9-5 SE last week, drives really nice and so far no issues except a little oil dripping from the turbo onto the oil filter. Did some research and read about the problem being quite common on earlier models due to bad crankcase ventilation and how to remedy this problem by replacing the original with better PCV kit.
As I am not 100% sure how to identify the differences of these I just took some pictures. Is this the original or has it already been replaced ? Also, what kind and grade of engine-oil do you recommend, the car so far has had pretty regular and frequent oil changes within 10000 km (give or take a 1000) and is currently running on FUCHS 10W30.
I also discovered a little oil at the left end of what appears to be the exhaust-camshaft plug which looks like it should have a cover plate screwed over it. I have also attached a photo here. Is there something missing ?
Would you recommend a semi-synthetic blend oil like Valvoline Durablend 10W40 or should I use a fully synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or others ? I am new with the SAAB owners community and bought the car for my wife to be safe and sound, I have owned several Volvos over the last 20 years and still got a 760 GLE.
Would appreciate any answers about this first question, thanks !
Cheers

Hello and welcome. Great looking Saab, how do you like it so far?
Here is some info on the oil specifications: http://saabworld.net/f144/saab-9-5-o...ication-27619/
It's best to use a full synthetic in the Saab 9-5 4-cylinder engine. Many owners use Mobil 1 or Castrol in 0W-40 or 5W-40 grades.
Hopefully someone else will have some more info on the PCV question.

Yes you do need to upgrade you PCV system. Dont know the kit costs in Au, but it is around 100 USD. You also need to drop the pan, clean it out, install the 2 rubber gaskets and reinstall the pan with the proper sealant, Just google Saab 9 5 PCV kit and on any site research dropping the pan.SAAB Crankcase Vent Update Kit (PCV) 55561200 - Proparts 21341200 - Free Shipping
