Dave - at least one good thing happened in 1966! We were slightly luckier - with 7 weeks holiday in the summer then 2 week in October for 'tattle howkin'.
See if Mr Google can translate.
Digital - decimal = 10 hours a day and everything happens 2.4 times faster!
Oh the good old days when you could play football in the street between the passing cars (2/3) and busses ( a few) per hour apart from rush hour when there were many bikes and pedestrians and not cars and lorries.

    Tattle Howkin.
Initially Bing'd 'tattle howkin' with the dots before and aft, and the first search result came up with a link to your previous post.
It made me feel a little famous-ish.
Then tried to find a Scottish- English translation site and found scots text with words like aathegither, aathing and haed.
    Got confused.
    Then found tattie howkin.
Tattie Howkin' Aka Potato Harvest - British Pathé
So is it to do with the potato harvest or something regarding Robbie Burns.
    Ttfn.
    Dave.

Dave, just a quick line - Potato Gathering - mostly done by machine and no squads of pickers as in my day (40+ years ago!)
Mr R Burns was from the west and although Scots would not have used the phrase.

My first was "Bits and Pieces" 45 ...that's a single not an album for you youngsters out there. I was playing a Pee Wee hockey tournament in Cranston Rhode Island....and yes the best music was 60's and 70's .....no doubt
