2.3 Aero possible buy.
Hi all,
I need some advice. I've seen a '04 Aero (Auto) Estate for sale. It's had 4/5 owners 137,000miles on the clock. All in all a very nice looking motor with a decent amount of history. Striking colour/combo as well.
Big problem is. No/low compression in #1 cylinder as diagnosed by the mechanic. Seller doesn't remember the reading. I've had a quick look at price of parts £400 plus pistons and rings. The only set of rings I've see are forged ones at £494 for the set. Am I just chasing a hiding to nothing. I've never done something as labour intensive as a Engine overhaul and rebuilt. It's usual interior rebuilds, Heater modules, electrical and basic mechanics. (although I did rebuild the rear end of my mothers old Motorhome).
Any opinions?More things change. The more they stay the same.

It could be a valve issue as well. If the body, interior and everything else is still in good shape as you mentioned, it may be worth it to replace the engine with a rebuilt one.
