9-3 '02 se ac problem

start car -ac compressor on -ac works fine- after 5 minutes of driving,ac compressor stops ,ac stops, fan remains on, temp guage needle drops off scale. stop car,shut down, wait 2 minutes, start car, ac compressor comes back on ,ac works fine. what is the problem?

If your temp gauge drops to the bottom, it is probably your t-stat remaining open. The ac cuts off as a safety precaution. You may get a CEL if the temp sensor is involved. Usually both are replaced.
