My alternator pulley was dislodged from the alternator. It started groaning one morning and about 30k kms later the bolt fell off and left me stranded

Towed the car to the workshop and got it fixed. However, they noticed that the serpentine belt on the car was about 10mm shorter than original. This is a Continental belt from Eeuroparts with about 70k kms. Could the extra tension from the 10mm shorter belt cause this?
