SAAB 9-5 Synthetic Oil change
I dont think there's a system in a 9-5 2000 2.3 Turbo that will access the oil quality ( oil life ) and tell ya it's time to change.
I had a synthetic oil change about 3 months or around 2.5-3K miles ago. Being pure synthetic oil- my expectation is it should last longer.
Oh yes- the most imp, its got 178.8K now . So should I wait or change it now

Even regular mineral oil should last longer than 3K miles. Many change synthetic oil between 5K and 10K miles but I try to do it every 6-7K miles.

Thank you. I kind of feel my car runs "rough" and it'd be round 3k since my last synthetic change so i figured ,it'd be the oil. But if synthetic's supposed to last 5-7k I'd hold off for 3k more. Wondered why it feels kinda rough. This happened since we had snow. It had a new turbo ( but I bought a cheap Chinese knockoff instead of an original rebuild )

What kind / weight of oil do you have in there? Not all synthetic oils are created equal. Good oil to use is Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge 0W-40.

Castrol 10w30 or 40 synthetic was the type . i should use 1 or 0 ..? That's best for old 2000 178k vet ..?

Oil in my 2001 Aero was turning dark within 1000km before I did an oil flush. The engine flush additive was enough for 5l so I put about 20% of the fluid first, idled for 10 mins or so and drained the existing oil. Then I filled up with the cheapest synthetic I could find (used the same filter) and used the rest of the bottle. The oil turned black within the recommended 15 minutes idle time. Drained it again, changed the filter and filled up with my choice of synthetic oil. After that oil is lasting much longer than it was used to without getting discoloured

More evidence for changing oil regularly with a good synthetic:
I put these pics up in my own thread a few weeks ago, but here's what I found when I pulled off the valve cover on my 04. It has 175k, and has had oil changes every 5k with M1 since new. It's worth it.
The top valve cover is from a dead engine that sludged and spun a rod bearing. This was after using part of a can of SeaFoam to clean it. Bottom cover is from the '04.

Just change it every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 0W-40 and be done. The 5k interval makes it easy to remember. You hit a 5 or a 10 on the odometer change the oil. No more need to keep track. Easy. Then just reset the service indicator every time it pops up.
Measure with a micrometer. Mark it with chalk. Cut it with a chainsaw. Collary: Measure Twice. Cut Thrice. Keep cussing.
