More 95 wows/ auto trans high reves

Out today in the 95(2002 2.0t fsh) when the car was changing up or down it revs to 2000 plus revs then jumped into gear， plus there was a rubber burning smell， fluid looks browny grey ， and is about midway on the stick ，my ground is not level .top up or full fluid change ， know the battery? is not holding a charge could this be a culprit?

I found a few rubber hoses out and put in a new battery as old was not bolxing a charge. All seems ok .

I would do a 3x drain and fill of the transmission. What you have is called "flaring" It might be due to failing solenoids (cheap) or a bad valve body (kinda pricey). Do you have the 5 speed or 4 speed auto? If you have the 5 speed auto try replacing the linear solenoids.
