Question Automatic Trans computer control module can be updated.?

I read recently that the Automatic Transmission computer control module can be updated. Is this correct, if, so how to do it.?
    A/T computer p-n 5160007, A/T computer p-n 5164314, for example.

The TCM for the automatic transmission can be reset but not programmed.

I had a feeling that would be the situation. I've seen this come up in the forums periodically but never received clarification about the 'how' & 'what' of it.

RE. Your point about "the transmission can be reset but not programmed"; if it can't be programmed, i.e. modified, why would it ever need to be reset.?

A TCM reset is used so that the transmission can relearn shift points. Anytime work is performed on the transmission, like replacing a valve body, it's a good idea to reset the TCM. If the transmission is performing normally a TCM reset is unnecessary.

Please let me ask for your assistance: I have a 1998 900 SE Turbo Convertible that keeps throwing the gear box code and then the check engine code. When I have this looked at it tells me it is the Transmission Control Module. I purchased a used on from Ebay (maybe not the correct thing to do): My question: can I replace without doing anything further: I.e. programming, etc. Transmission has never acted up by the way.
