Takata or Autoliv on a European 2005 9-3?

Hello. I've reading some contradictory information about the Takata airbag fitted into the 9-3 (2003-2011). Are the European models afected too?
I can't remember but once I read something about 2003-2007 9-3 model airbags came from Autoliv.
    Thanks and regards

You really need to go to the GM site and input your VIN to see for sure.
The European models are affected. However, the recalls are being implemented in phases and as far as I know none have been sent by GM for Saabs.

    Thanks for the reply.
I did that, but all I got from https://my.gm.com/recalls?evar18=takata_home was:

"If you're a SAAB owner, contact your authorized SAAB service center directly to discuss your concerns with a member of their management team, as they will ultimately be responsible for completing the recall repairs for your vehicle. For additional recall assistance with your SAAB vehicle, you can reach them on Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. EST at 1-800-955-9007."

Besides, they only mention 2006-2011 9-3, not those before that and it seems they are providing information only for US.

Saab used Autoliv airbags up to and including MY2005, for MY2006 they switched over to Takata. So you are not affected with a MY2005 9-3. (please note MY2006 started around October 2005!, check your VIN to make sure which Model Year (MY) your car is)

The https://my.gm.com website (and subsequently this specific recall) is only for cars which were first registered in the US. So, you local GM should initiate a country-specific recall.

Thank you so much for this useful information! My car has a June 2005 plate, so I guess I'm ok.
Off topic...In the latest news it seems Autoliv is preparing to buy Takata.
Once again, thanks for the reply!

You can also determine from the outside of the airbag whether you have a Takata or Autoliv airbag, since the design is slightly different.

I just looked up the two different airbags for our 9-3 models on ebay as examples.

    MY2003-2005 Autoliv driver airbag:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ships-Today-...-/331060579097

    MY2006-2011 Takata driver airbag:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-2011-Sa...%7CModel%3A9-3

As you can see from the pictures of the back side, the Autoliv airbag is still looking as new whilst the Takata airbag is already rotting away, even though it is newer!

wow, that's brilliant! Never noticed that small difference. True, the Autoliv looks newer...I hope mine is also in such a good shape
