False antifreeze reservoir message (2006 Saab 9-3 2.0)

Because I had a minor leak in my antifreeze reservoir I changed it, no more leaks but now each time I start the car I get the message to refill the antifreeze reservoir. When I purchased the new reservoir I noticed that the float in the reservoir wasn't anchored over the sensor like the old one which means it's just floating in the reservoir, could this be the reason the message comes on.... think I need to buy another new one?

I no longer have my 2006 9-3 2.0t but I think I remember it was connected to the sensor.
