Can a mortal replace the turbo?

My son inherited my beloved 2006 9-3T 2.0 Saab with only 64K miles on it. Unfortunately, the turbo just stopped working and we were wonder if we could replace it our self so he can take the car to college.

Does anyone have instructions or a video showing how to replace it?

    Thanks!
    ~~Al

Here are the instructions from the Saab WIS. I replaced the turbo on my 9-5 once but not on a 9-3 so not much help with any tips.

@nordwulf thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for. If you also have access to Saab EPC, then would you mind looking into the turbo part number for 2006 9-3 2.0T as well as any gaskets or o-rings needed to replace?

    Thanks again!

The EPS and eEuroParts show the part number is 55564941. Perhaps others can suggest any gaskets or o-rings you should replace. Or you can contact eEuro or thesaabsite.com (official Saab parts supplier in the US) and see what they suggest. Good luck!

@nordwulf thanks for the links. I just ordered the new turbo from eeuroparts.com. I made good progress today, but I had to stop because the upper & lower oxygen sensors are super tight (step #9 and #22) so I was not able to remove the catalytic converter. I put some WD-40 around of the 2 sensors and I hope I can get them out tomorrow. Any suggestion will be very welcome though.

    Thanks again!

The turbo is now out of the car and I'm still waiting for the new one to arrive. In the meantime, how can I diagnose what went wrong with original one? It was not smoking or leaking, but the car didn't have any acceleration power and it was making this noise: https://youtu.be/g91QUJoBZnk

    Hi nordwulf,

Will it be possible for you to also add the part list for the above diagram? I need part number for #29 and #5. Thanks!

The exhaust gasket between the manifold and the turbo has a raised side, does anyone know if the raised side should face the manifold side or the turbo side? Thanks!
