    KEY FOB ISSUE

Before i begin, i have checked numerous forums and really didn't find anything.

I have two key fobs, one of them the micro switches (buttons on circuit board) need replacing. I acquired new ones and did a successful replacement of the switches. I did the R&R using a quality "3rd hand" with a LED lit magnifier. I double checked all my solders and it looks super!

Firstly, i checked the IFR on the doors, trunk lid ect. and no worky. I then inserted the fob into the cylinder and on the SID it said "key not accepted, check with Saab dealer" This was a working 2nd key on the car until the repair. Is there a way to reprogram the fob without having to take it to a dealer? The closest dealer to me is 800 miles away...

    Thanks

I've owned a Saab for less than a week and I guarantee you I am not a Saab expert, but I do know something about transponder keys and I see no one is jumping in to help answer your question.

800 miles to a Saab dealer is a long way to travel, I suggest the nearest GM dealership. They may not have the Saab software to unlock the system, but if the Saab "key" works like the others, your good working key is all they should need to reconnect your non working key, if your non working key still works after your repair. Not to suggest you didn't do a great solder job, but a few years back I owned a circuit board repair business and even the best techs working with the best equipment sometimes cook components.

Thanks Digger, appreciate your honesty, and your reply. I did go to the local GM dealership and they could not help me. I ended up calling a Saab specialist that does repairs and is only a three hour drive. He said that the vehicle has to be present with a working key. The upside to all this is that it will ONLY cost a 180.00 CAN bucks. I too feel the same way, i feel that i have a working key, there should be some way to marry the both of them.

In short, it looks like my only solution, i better not loose my one and only working Fob!

Bummer on the local GM help, thought that Kelowana would be a big enough town that the local dealers would all have the Saab, Suzuki and Isuzu capable card on their Tech 2's.

If you're that far from help wouldn't hurt to pick up an extra fob, have it added to the system and hide it in the car. Transponder keys don't like water anymore than cell phones do, but a wet cell phone won't stop you from driving home.
