Please Help Me Solve the P0455 Code on my 2004 Saab 9-5 Arc Wagon

    Hey there,

I have a 2004 Saab 9-5 Arc Wagon 2.3t, and I am in desperate need of help with the P0455 Code (EVAP gross leak in the system, new gas cap recommended)-please with cherries on top. So I bought the new gas cap from Auto Zone, and the light went out almost immediately. Then thinking that the original gas cap was fine, and probably just loose, I put the original one back on (don't ask). Light came back on. So I put the new one back on, but unfortunately the light returned steady for now.

This has been going on for about a month.

I've tried to reset the code a few times but it comes back on with filling up, or after driving for some time, and it also seems to affect the ABS system (light flashed off and on each time I did the reset while on the highway at high speeds) so I don't wanna do that anymore.

I've smelled gas once, but I was near a gas station so I'm not sure how accurate my senses were.

I've done a lot of research on this topic and I've heard everything from purge valve to hoses to shut off valve. In reality, I would like to pinpoint the problem before I go replacing things that don't need replacing.

Any tips in this area would be really helpful and ridiculously appreciated. Thank you very much.

    Is this it? http://lh3.google.com/walmark1980/R0...AP%20purge.jpg

Do you recommend cleaning (if so, will electronic cleaner work?) or replacing? Thanks!

One more thing, please. Where is the close valve located? I hear people using the close and purge valves interchangeably but I know they're different.

    Bosch part #0280142301
Buy it, install it and disconnect the neg battery terminal for 10 minutes to clear codes and see if that fixes it.
This a part for an 01 Aero, but you can verify if it is the same for the 04

If that's a photo of the engine, its not any 4 cylinder 2.3 that I'm familiar with. A 6 cylinder 3 liter?

Yes, it is a 4 cylinder. Not my engine, just a picture I grabbed off of the web.

UPDATE: Ironically, the check engine light disappeared yesterday after messing around with the purge valve. I was about to take it about and clean it, then something came up so I decided to do it later, but then the light disappeared. Crazy. Well I hope it stays gone. Now I can watch The Walking Dead without googling parts. Yay for today!
