Horrible MPG
Hi guys, I joined a while back but haven't had a ton of extra time to check in due to working almost full time and attending college, etc. I don't expect anyone to help me since I've had pretty much no activity on here but it would be much appreciated. So ever since I purchased my 2006 9-5 over a year ago, I've been getting horrible gas mileage. The car has just hit 73k miles and I've tried a bunch of things to improve my MPG's. Just to list some of the things I've done:
-Transmission Flush
-Cleaned Throttle Body/MAF Sensor
-Replaced Air Filter
-New OEM DIC & Plugs (Correct NGKs & Gap)
-Regular Mobil 1 Oil Changes
-Few tanks of Seafoam
-Smoke test to check for any vacuum line leaks
-Probably more I'm forgetting to mention
But anyways, I've been driving like an old lady and with the AC always off. I drive 80% highway 20% city and struggle to get 22mpg. Does anyone have any input? I have access to a Tech2 if that can help me at all. Thanks!Last edited by nordwulf; 22 November 2016 at 14:28. Reason: moved thread to 9-5 Workshop forum

I am getting about 27 mpg on average when driving in town and 55mph roads.
Are you using premium fuel (91+)? Fuel mileage will be a bit worse when you use regular but still should be better than 22mpg.

You may be getting better mileage than you think. Assuming you're using SID for info, check mileage between fill ups by dividing miles by gallons needed.

22 is a bit low mate. Tyre pressures OK? Wheel alignment OK?

I checked my SID mpg, and i currently show 23.4 with a mix of city/hwy. SID probably averages everything. I know on long hwy trips I get over 30mpg fwiw.

I'm a new Saab owner currently bringing my '08 9-5 up to speed. My car had a malfunctioning coolant thermostat that intermittently threw a code. The needle of the temperature gauge would sit a little below 9 o'clock. My car was getting about 22 mpg until I replaced the thermostat when the mileage jumped to about 27 mpg. Something to think about.

I get 19 mpg in my 2004 9-5 Aero, but she's sitting at 220k, is that normal for high mileage?

Maybe, if that's combined. Reset the SID mpg before a trip, and see what you get. I have had as low as 16mpg when I commuted in stop and go traffic.

for me I've regurarly 22 MPG on a mixed trip (2lt 110 KW 150 HP ) on highway with speed regulator get 27 at the best. for that moment i have a swapping engine with a P1110 code (turbo valve issue ) lead to have 23 hope when my vacuum valves are fixed it going better.
