Oil Pressure Light

Saab 95 sitting in the garage right now, the oil light came on - but seems to be operating backwards from what on would think. When the engine is good and warm, driving at highway speed - light blinks, slow down and at idle it goes out. I haven't had time to check things yet - too cold! I did replace the oil pressure sensor a couple years back when trying to look for oil leaks. Bad sensor? Other ideas?

You know what's wrong, your screen is clogged, your PCV system is not updated, or both. Stop driving and drop your sump or you might have to throw the car away.

I approve the post from Mike I've in November a close issue ... results swapping engine coz the timing chain is going bad in few minutes.

Listen to Mike Brennan. Anytime oil light comes on while at highway speeds, it's bad news. As oil heats up and thins, if pressure is very low at higher revs, it's seizure time.

Thanks for the replies. I dropped the sump about 10,000 miles ago (163,000 miles), wasn't real dirty - do you think it would be clogged already?. Did PVC update, new engine mounts, new front seal, urethane subframe bushings at that time. Have always used LiquiMoly 5-40 synthetic every 5000 miles.

Hmm... You may not be in such dire straits. Probably best to have oil pressure checked out. And if you put in a Proparts switch, that could be the issue. They are known to not give good readings. Hope for the best.

Yes it is possible to have a bad connection where the wind can wiggle the wires and flicker the light as you drive down the road, but on a motor that is known to sludge the sump that would be the second thing to check, not the fist

when you have saying about your engine this not a main issue did you change the oil pressure sensor ? if not this is on driver side heading rear of the engine ( Saab head mech have said to me it's pain in ... to do coz it's a little bit unattainable.

Yes, the oil pressure sensor is not very accessible. Usually have to get at it from under the car, removing the starter, and using a special tool, oxygen sensor socket or crows foot, to replace it. Use only the OEM part. Complaints about Proparts part flickering at idle. Just remembered seeing on another site about pressure relief valve sticking, causing low oil pressure at highway speeds. I believe that is behind/or near the front main seal cover. Anyway, it'd be best to check oil pressure, and then choose the right remedy. Hard to diagnose over the net.

Thanks again for input. I wish there were an easy way to connect a gauge. I did replace the sensor, I remember having to pull the starter and using a crowfoot to install. I doubt I installed an OEM sensor - but I will this time - I was trying to find an oil leak. I looked at oil filter adapters to allow for a gauge - anybody tried one?
