Replacing the Saab 9-5 with a Toyota 4Runner
The time has come to replace the Saab 9-5 with a different vehicle. I wanted another SUV for a while now and this 2017 4Runner will provide a lot more utility in any kind of weather. It will also be nice to go beyond paved roads where the 9-5 often can't take me. It will be great for exploring more of the wilderness in Michigan and Ontario, camping in new places, never get stuck in snow again and actually looking for unplowed backroads.
This is the last mid-size SUV that is still an SUV and not a fashionable cross-over. I may not use all its capabilities but it is always re-assuring that you can if needed. This is a body-on frame and has 4.0L V6. It's bit thirsty but at least takes regular gas so not that bad compared to my 9-5 that needs premium.
I have only had it for a day and already really like it. The 2005 9-5 served me fine but it's nice to be in a more modern vehicle with the latest integrated entertainment and navigation options. The higher seating position is really nice, much easier to get in and out compared to a car. I still have the 9-5 but that will be put up for sale soon. I am sure this will not be the end of Saab ownership and I'll probably own another Saab sooner or later. I still want a Saab convertible some day.

Congrats on your purchase. I agree that taking the 9-5 through the wilderness would be interesting, and there is a YouTube channel, Amesie's Corner, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwA...43UHWJ-VLlphYw, that deals with that in some of the videos. I have not been a continuous Saab owner during my experience with them , and have taken a break from time to time. Seem to come back to them, usually with a different model than I had before. Everyone should own a 'vert at some time of their life just for the experience.
Is the site going to be renamed Saab/Toyota World?

SaabWorld is going to stay just like it is, no need to change a good thing.
The Saab is fine on gravel roads but the Aero suspension is just not the greatest match. Many regular roads here are also not in the greatest shape so it's nice to have a more comfortable suspension and a few inches of sidewalls on these tires.
I am checking out a few 4Runner forums but it seems the community spirit as a brand is just not the same as with Saab. But it is one of the biggest manufacturers in the world and owners of a 4Runner do not have much in common with people that buy a minivan, Camry or a Prius.
There are some good forums for overlanding which is more of a lifestyle than a specific vehicle brand. I think those are better places to hang out.

Driving something different is a good thing for comparison and experience. Saab does have a great community, but has gone through changes, as Saabists realized that there aren't going to be new Saabs, they move on to different makes. I've noticed a lot of new Saab owners on the BBs, trying to get them working right, becoming frustrated due to the learning curve. I believe all Saab sites will more restoration oriented, changing from just enthusiasts. In all my experience, they are the most unique make I've owned.

Enjoying the 4Runner so far. It is taking me to places that were off limits to the 9-5. Too bad winter is over, I am sure it is also a lot of fun in deep snow.
