Chassis Mount Wing (?) (Don't hate me, Saab gods)
Hey all,
So recently in my city there's been a growing trend of chassis mount wings uselessly placed on cars which would have no need for them.. This got me thinking... how would my 9-3 look with a chassis mount wing? I know its a pretty stupid idea don't get me wrong, but it would look something like this (picked a Honda because FWD life). I also know a lot of you are purists and resent any form of extreme modification to Saabs, so that's the biggest factor turning me away from them. Just thought it would be a unique concept!
What do you guys think?

Appropriately riced! Seriously, if you are going this route, I would advise you shorten the wing length so it doesn't extend beyond the car body. I say that not for looks but for practicality. Makes parking and driving around other cars easier; you don't want to scrape against larger SUVs. As for appearance, well, I don't judge 😉

I think we can agree it serves no functional purpose. So it is for looks only, unless you actually race in the STCC. Just putting a wing on a unmodified Saab would look silly so you should go all the way and build a race car. Then it would look pretty good. But anything else, you'll end up in the "How do you like your rice? thread. http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=25096

Nordwulf, you are much too harsh. Rear wings have a distinguished history http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/590de903...402188ece.jpg?

Given that the original purpose of such "Wings" was to increase down force to improve traction, I see little need for such on a front wheel drive car such as a Saab. Yes, some increase in down force may be necessary at very high speeds but not to the extent that these would provide. Note too that the same "wing" that produces down force does so at the expense of drag. If you don't angle the 'wing" to produce very much down force you still get the increased drag. In short, if you don't need the down force don't bother.
Nordwulf, all the "wing" on the car in your photos will do is to hold the boot (trunk) lid closed, I note that it already has the Saab spoiler.

That wing is actually mounted to the chassis of the car. It isn't really a Saab underneath the sheetmetal but at least it looks like a 9-3.
