    Temp Temp

I've got a 2005 9-5 Wagon. Couple of weeks ago, the check engine light came on though no messages in the SID. Took it in, apparently bade temp sensor, which was replaced.

Have driven 200+ miles since in the past week. Today, same symptoms. No funny sounds or smells. Same thing?

I have to commute about 100-120 miles a day. Should I be worried?

Some things are important to fix immediately, even if the light itself is the only problem.

A red check engine light is always important, even when it's not. Say for instance that the only problem with your temp sensor was a loose connector end and you have no over heat problem. With the check engine light on for something as innocuous as a loose sensor connection, what will get your attention when you do have a real heat or oil problem?.

Well I am going to take it in. I've sweated this the last two times it happened. But I also started a new job literally last week and didn't want to kick off my second week with "gotta take a day off to check the car". Hoping to work remotely tomorrow and drive it up to the shop.

Meantime I thought I'd ask the Saaberati what else it could be. I thought the SID showed all error messages. This is just the engine outlined in yellow - not red - on the gauges.

The SID doesn't show any error codes. There should be an OBD2 code with a check engine light. OBD2 scanners are cheap or you can borrow one at a auto parts store. These codes are often specific to Saabs and fixing the problem can be easy if you know what to look for.

Thanks Wulf! I think I may invest in one.

It turns out to not be the temperature sensor though (that is what was fixed week before last).

Drove it to the shop first thing this morning. Turns out to be the spark plugs and and ignition cassete - I take it the plugs are mounted in a box?

Supposed to have been refreshed at 90k miles and there's not record thereof; I'm at 110000 now and it was 103 when I bought it.

Fingers crossed this is the last major thing for a while. The Saab's a distance daily driver for the foreseeable future (100-120 miles a day for the new job).

Edited to add it was the ignition cassette. They said the #1 and #2 spots were misfiring, according to the log.

The Direct Ignition Cassette usually needs replacement avery 100K miles and is a common service item. It goes bad slowly so won't leave you stranded. But it should be replaced when you get the check engine light with the P1312 and P1334 OBD codes. And replacing the spark plugs at the same time is a good course of action as well.

They did that too, and turned their noses up at the spark plugs they found brand-wise .
