    2006 Saab 9-5 Passenger Airbag off light in climate control console

    GM SW,

    I made a previous post regarding seatbelt sensors, but it turns out this is not the case. I see now that the dinging is associated with an airbag warning light inside the rpm gauge, and a light that says "Passenger Airbag OFF" that is "hard-coded" into the console for the climate control.

    1. Since there is a light for this, is there some way to turn this on and off?
    a. How do I do this?
    b. Is there a malfunction somewhere?
    c. Did someone disable this?
    d. Was the airbag deployed and never replaced/reactivated?

    Any and all input is welcomed and appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Mario

    As far as I know the airbag off light turns off when you have a passenger and it comes back on when there's no passenger

    @Leo,

    Thank you for the info, when I rode in it for the test drive, the alert kept going off, so maybe the sensor under the seat is faulty?
    I'll do some tests and report my findings.

    If I recall correctly the "sensor" is a switch and some nylon string, but that may be the 9000 seat. Either way it isn't exactly complicated.

    @Geoff,

    Thank you for replying. I havent had this issue in my 02 9-3, or my 04 9-5. The climate control actually has a notification built into the ACC unit. NEver saw this prior to 06 model year

    the airbag must be checked by Tech II for having full functions. could be checked by a Bosch but not modified. do that and you will know quickly your issue.

    Don't panic. The warning Passenger Airbag Off means that the control system has been told not to activate the passenger airbag. The first thing to do is to sit somebody in the passenger seat and start the engine. If the light doesn't come on there is probably no problem and you don't need to do anything. It would also be sensible to check with the drivers handbook as to how the light is activated.
